James Halliday's Top 100 wines of 2022, 95 points - The Australian
"This is a three-dimensional wine, the bouquet and palate both attesting to its varietal roots, and taking the opportunity offered by the great vintage, the herbal nuances on the finish adding charisma to the equation."

"The top 20 wines of 2022" - Max Allen, The Australian Financial Review

Gold Medal - Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show

"The pioneers of Australian sangiovese have delivered again. The 2021 entices with sweet cherries, vanilla and thyme on the nose, leading to a palate infused with cherry and raspberry flavours. Beautifully balanced, with savoury notes emerging as you linger. Medium-bodied; fine but firm tannins give the palate great length. A sangiovese to fall in love with, from some of the oldest sangiovese vines in Australia. Mushroom risotto an obvious pairing."
The Australian, 2 August 2022

"A top vintage for this wine, I reckon. Juicy cherry, dried herbs and flowers, a little vanilla and cedar oak. It’s medium-bodied, bright and pops with cherry and raspberry, an earthy and dried herb savouriness, cranberry freshness to acidity, a little chew to firm chalky tannin, and a long and satisfying finish. It’ll really hit its straps in a year or two. 94 points"
Gary Walsh, The Winefront

"Deep red-purple colour; youthful but layered bouquet of wood oil, smoky berries, cranberry uppermost; a hint of wood-smoke. There is good intensity and vivacity on palate with energising acidity that adds extra firmness to the tannins. Well structured as a food wine. An honest, dinky-di sangiovese. 93 points"
The Real Review

Young Gun of Wine's "Wines We Love": "An exceptional release from the sangiovese touchstone in this country, this is an effortless affair, displaying the classic combination of cherries, woodsy herbs and earthiness, with a bright but typically savoury finish."

Tasting Notes
The nose is bright and pronounced showing an alluring mix of red cherry and floral rose, along with sweet thyme flower lift. The palate is medium bodied with great depth of flavour showing more cherry, raspberry and mixed spice. Fine but firm tannin give the palate great persistence and drive.
Winemaker Notes
So well suited to the McLaren Vale region and over 40 years of experimenting with sites, clones and rootstocks has led to this sangiovese being an Australian benchmark. Harvested from our 12 blocks across our 4 McLaren Vale vineyards it is interesting to see the site and clonal variations. The blending is done in the vineyard to create the optimum expression of McLaren Vale sangiovese.
Food Pairing Notes
This wine would pair beautifully with a mixed mushroom risotto or for a late afternoon tipple, team with cured meats and pickled vegetables.
Other Notes
Sangiovese was pioneered in Australia by Coriole Vineyards with the first plantings in 1985. It provided a contrasting style to shiraz - the great tradition of McLaren Vale - and has proven to be ideally suited to the warm maritime climate of the region. The fruit is sourced from some of the oldest producing sangiovese vines in Australia.
