Coriole Vineyards

2023 Sangiovese

2023 Sangiovese
2023 Sangiovese

Coriole's fruit is sourced from some of the oldest producing sangiovese vines in Australia.

So well suited to the McLaren Vale region, and over 40 years of experimenting with sites, clones and rootstocks has led to this sangiovese being an Australian benchmark.

Harvested from our 12 blocks across our four McLaren Vale vineyards it is interesting to see the site and clonal variations. The blending is done in the vineyard to create the optimum expression of McLaren Vale sangiovese.

"Mid to deep ruby and offers up expressive aromas of cherry liqueur, soy sauce and roasted meats with genuine power and complexity. Italian styling with a structural style, al dente tannins adding upfront impact. 93 points"
Andrew Caillard MW, The Vintage Journal

"Very honest, medium-bodied sangiovese. Rose petals, crunchy red fruit and a steely, wiry, herbal tannic framework that encourages the next glass. Prosaic in the best sense. A delicious everyday wine. Drink or hold. 92 points"
Ned Goodwin MW, JamesSuckling.com

"Ever reliable, and such good value with it. Cherry, red fruits, a smattering of dried herb and aniseed, new leather, also a little ferrous. It’s medium-bodied, crisp and lively, red fruits and almond, well-etched gently sandy tannin, good length and plenty of varietal character. Good now, likely better again with another year or two in bottle. 93 points"
Gary Walsh, Winefront

Food Pairing Notes
This wine would pair beautifully with a mixed mushroom risotto or for a late afternoon tipple, team with cured meats and pickled vegetables.
Other Notes
Sangiovese was pioneered in Australia by Coriole Vineyards with the first plantings in 1985. It provided a contrasting style to shiraz - the great tradition of McLaren Vale - and has proven to be ideally suited to the warm maritime climate of the region. The fruit is sourced from some of the oldest producing sangiovese vines in Australia.
