It’s that exciting time of the year again when we have an array of small batch wines ready for release.
Mark and Duncan Lloyd sat down for a tasting and had a chat about three newly released small batch wines - the 2019 Piquepoul, the 2018 Montepulciano and the 2018 Grenache. (To add subtitles, click the CC button in the bottom right hand corner of the video window.)
We’ve put together a mixed dozen of these three wines, a great addition to your cellar in spring.

2019 is our fifth release of Piquepoul. The nose is spritely and fresh showing fresh lemon, cypress and crushed shell. The palate is fine and long with fresh acidity providing drive and texture, flavours of citrus blossom and wet stone leaving the palate craving seafood - natural oysters especially!
Montepulciano was first planted at Coriole back in 2001. This late ripening variety has really proven itself in McLaren Vale and over the last decade we have been planting further vineyards. We love the variety for its rich intensity and lovely array of savoury characters to balance the dark cherry fruit. The 2018 Montepulciano is medium to full bodied, lightly floral, with excellent depth of flavour, black olive and tealeaf on the nose, following through to the palate along with rich dark fruits and a cherry chocolate character.
The 2017 Grenache (which was awarded 97 points by James Halliday) sold out in a weekend - and we feel the 2018 is just as good if not a little better! Our estate grenache is a barrel selection of our best barrels, and in 2018 we bottled 3 barrels resulting in a total of 99 dozen. Red cherries, pomegranate and white pepper on the nose with sage, rosemary and lavender aromatics. Strawberries and spiced rhubarb on the palate. A pretty and floral wine with great persistence and intensity.
